Voyager Edition set - Director's Cut
over 2 years ago – Mon, Dec 06, 2021 at 02:22:40 PM

I have great news for you! The first Constellation Dice set, designed 5 years ago to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Voyager probes' launch, might get a final "Director's Cut" reprint in time for the 45th.

Being a limited edition, the set could be never manufactured again in the original colors (Night Black / Sky Blue with white, silver, or glowing green paint) and the factory had a very limited palette for custom dice. Things changed recently, and surprisingly they have started using new materials and techniques that would allow making the sets precisely as they were originally envisioned:

It must be added that Q-workshop doesn't allow anymore on custom dice the level of intricate detail used for the Planets d100 and Moons d10, but we have reached a special agreement in view of our long standing collaboration: if we order enough, they can make an exception and print the sets again with no amendments to the design.

An experiment: 7pcs sets at just €17 on the first day

We all know money is tight since the pandemic struck, but it is expecially after Black Friday offers, and with the holidays approaching. However, the USD/EUR exchange rate is the most convenient in years for US backers, and this could help crowdfunding.

I would like to contribute further by setting the lowest price ever for the full sets, albeit with no stretch goal freebies and a much higher funding goal than usual (to make sure the numbers are right). If enough backers chip in, you could get the best version of the Voyager Edition at the minimum cost ever. Do not miss this opportunity, get a few sets and tell your friends too :)

The new Kickstarter will be launched tomorrow (Dec. 7th, 2021) at 15:00 UTC, that is 24 hours from this e-mail, and last one week only. If it doesn't get funded, the campaign will be relaunched in January with a lower goal and regular reward prices.

See you tomorrow!

In case you desire to play with the papercrafts freely, or if the cuts weren't perfect and the sides are a bit loose, just use some superglue or crafter's glue with precision tip or brush.

This tutorial shows how to make the d12 because it's the most complex of the bunch.
The others are easier, and you should be able to build most polyhedrals in 5 minutes from printed paper to solid models, and the full set in less than a hour.

If you do, please send a couple pictures to  [email protected] and show everyone :)

One Year of Exploration

“The explorer who will not come back or send back his ships to tell his tale is only an adventurer.” Ursula K. Le Guin

What a journey. When I pressed the launch button for Constellation Dice - Voyager Edition on Nov. 14th, 2016 my hope was to collect enough to at least manufacture the new Southern Sky d6, Voyager d10, and Desired Constellation fudge d6, that took a long time to refine. Long enough that I had to decide whether it was time well spent, and worth an investment toward steep business license and manufacturing costs... or if I'd better do something else.

My 1st edition Northern Sky d6 were still on demand, so I bit the bullet and took a chance, even if I had been warned that November and December are not the best months for crowdfunding. I had no choice: in order to avoid double taxes, I had to make sure I collected funds at the beginning of a new year. I had hopes, but my expectations were low.

Fast forward 5 weeks (and many sleepless nights) later, exactly one year ago the campaign ended up collecting over six times its goal, and bringing you Full Sets in two colors :)

It's not been easy... the following months were as hectic as the first days of campaign (that you remember, I guess) and I felt responsible to bring you the best possible product while learning the intricacies of import/export and safety regulations, and dealing with factories, consultants, post offices, and - most importantly - 600 backers!

After one year and another major campaign, it's still a labour of love. All funds have been used for prototyping, manufacturing, shipping, taxes/fees, or reinvested in new designs, such as the Eclipse d10, Sky's Edge d6, or the Nebula style of the Desired Constellation d6.

Let's close with some statistics:

  • 700 Voyager Edition rewards were sent
  • 500 Voyager Celebrations rewards will be sent soon
  • 2 backers never answered their survey (I hope you are ok)
  • 2 backers are still waiting for their reward (as far as I know)
  • 2 envelopes went missing (and were sent again)
  • 3 envelopes came back after a trip to the other side of the world
  • 15 backers had some dice missing (replacements were sent)

Thanks for being an essential part of this journey: your support and suggestions were my compensation for a lot of hard work, and I look forward to share my designs with even more dice lovers like you. Most of all, I am grateful that through my work I was able to touch your lives and contribute to some happy, playful moments. Share your best in the comments :)

Game on!

Please meet the Eclipse d10

Mission control confirms:

24 hours to go!

Tomorrow at this time a new campaign for Constellation Dice - Voyager Anniversary Celebrations, will be launched to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Voyager 1 mission.

These new Eclipse d10 will be added to all rewards when the appropriate stretch goals are met, so it is very important that you spread the word to those that might be interested, online and off!

A preview page for the campaign is online: please click here to see it, add your comments, and pick your favorite reward (all tiers are limited, as they also include the few remaining glowing / "silver" painted dice).

Since the page is still subject to modifications (your feedback is welcome) more information will be available later today in the comments to this update.

Tell everyone :)
